Azerbaijan cruise past Luxembourg

Azerbaijan registered the first win at the 2013 EuroBasket Qualifying Round. They stunned Luxembourg on the road tonight. Zaur Pashayev (188-G-83) provided 21 points to lead the visitors.

Azerbaijan exploded with 31 points in the opening quarter to clear off. They posted a 14-point lead after ten minutes. The visitors stayed aggressive offensively in the second quarter. Azerbaijan extended the lead to 18 points at halftime 59:41.

Azerbaijan did not slow down after the big break. They erupted for 27 points in the third quarter to ensure a 20-point buffer before the fourth term. Azerbaijan limited the hosts to 12 points in the final term to seal a comfortable win at the end. Charles Davis (205-C-84, college: Alabama) and Orhan Haciyeva (200-PF-89) accounted for 20 points each for the winners. Samy Picard (196-PF-88) answered with 28 points for Luxembourg. Tom Schumacher (189-PG-87, college: Cal.Baptist) provided 18 points in the loss.
